Meppel students together with the municipality and care institution get started with dementia

Meppel – Students Care of Drenthe College and Zorggroep Noorderboog started the DEAL project. Together they put their shoulders behind making a plan for improving dementia care. The kick-off was during the Dementia Care Conference “Next Level” Southwest Drenthe.

DEAL stands for Dementia, Education, Approach, Life. Within the project, care questions were discussed such as which competencies of teachers and caregivers need to be improved. In addition, we look at intensifying cooperation between healthcare institutions and educational institutions.

During the conference, teachers, students and healthcare professionals actively went to work by sharing, meeting knowledge and seeking cooperation within the Meppel region. with a central demand for care focused on the meppel environment. The goals are how to respond as education, care and local government to the increasing growth of care seekers with dementia. Where a dementia-friendly society and awareness of the impact of dementia on society and family emerged as an important subject.

Councilor Henk ten Hulscher of the municipality of Meppel kicked off the morning. ‘The issue you’re going to work on is close to our municipality. We are seeing the number of people with dementia growing and demand for support is increasing. We desperately need you, as care specialists. You know how to deliver customisation and stay connected in the district.”

This morning’s proceeds were clear: even more collaboration in the chain, using students and family experiences and sharing knowledge and experience even better. The participants have already made arrangements on the spot to raise even more for optimal care about dementia.
