Where in the Brain do Senses lie?

Our senses, such as vision and hearing, and cognitive functions are located in different parts of the brain called the cerebral cortex.

The frontal lobe of the cerebrum takes care of conscious thinking, planning and organizing. This is also, where large parts of our memory and attention are supported, just as the frontal lobe is important to our emotional life.

The sense of smell and sense of taste are processed in old, deep lying areas between the frontal and the temporal lobe. The middle part of the brain, the parietal lobe accounts for the perception of many different sensory impressions such as pain, touch, pressure and temperature, as well as sensation and posture. One of the functions of the temporal lobe, which is located under the frontal lobe, is hearing. The occipital lobe, located at the back of the cerebrum just above the cerebellum, captures and interprets visual impressions.
